Why We Built Pocket ID
Modern apps treat privacy as a checkbox feature, not a core principle. Users are constantly warned that their data is "secure," yet companies monetize user information, sell data to third parties, and build surveillance infrastructure.
We built Pocket ID because we believe this doesn't have to be the way. Your personal information—especially sensitive IDs and credentials—shouldn't need to leave your device. Encryption should be standard, not premium. And users should have complete control.
Pocket ID exists to prove that privacy-first software can be simple, reliable, and actually useful.

Your information belongs to you. We don't claim ownership, monetize it, or use it for any purpose other than what you explicitly authorize.
Security by Design
Privacy isn't bolted on afterward. Every architectural decision prioritizes protecting user data from the ground up.
Minimal Data Collection
We collect only what's necessary to provide core functionality. No analytics, no tracking, no surplus data harvesting.
Radical Transparency
We're honest about what we do and how we store data. Smart scan uses Google ML Kit, which runs entirely on your phone. Google Sign-In and Google Drive are used only if you turn on Drive backup.
Technology & Security
Local Encryption
Every ID, custom field and image is encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM. The key is derived from your mPIN with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (100,000 rounds) and is never stored.
Secure Storage
Encrypted records live in a local database on your phone. Key material is kept in Android's secure storage, backed by the Android Keystore.
Optional Google Backup
Back up to a file or to your own Google Drive. Backups are encrypted with a separate backup password (600,000 PBKDF2 rounds) before they leave the app, and Drive access is limited to files Pocket ID creates.
No Centralized Database
We don't maintain servers or databases that store user information. Your data never sits in our infrastructure.
